40 Years of Summer Bingo Games at York Beach Fire Station
Charity bingo can be found right across the US in all sorts of venues from Churches to Fire Stations raising much need funds normally for the local community. There have now been over 40 years of summer bingo games at York Beach fire station drawing locals and tourists alike to this great traditional pastime.
On Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:30pm until 10pm throughout July and August York Beach fire station hosts bingo games with coverall jackpots. This summertime tradition held in this beautiful vacation spot draws both old and new faces. Some of the players are tourists who return year after year to the area and cannot resist the lure of the bingo games. It’s not just tourists who play bingo at York Beach fire station. Clare Kolman, a York Beach resident has been playing bingo at the fire station for 22 years. She won on Tuesday, but had to split the prize with four other winners, getting $6 each.
The money from the bingo sales goes into the fireman’s fund and is distributed to those in need, from people burned out of their homes to the Visiting Nurse Association. The fireman’s fund also allows fire fighters to get extra equipment that the town’s budget might not otherwise be able to afford, such as the recent purchase a of York Beach’s back-up vehicle, Rescue 3, at a cost of $30,000.
